Elly's latest adventures

Well since our last post, we have been busy getting ready for me to head back to work. Elly got to visit Birmingham-Southern and meet all my old co-workers. It's funny to see college students around a baby. Next time, I'll have to make sure I take a few pictures of the visit.

We have continued to work on Elly's schedule and for the most part she seems to be doing better. She is on a 3-4 hour eating schedule with a few 5 hour stints at night. She eats about 4 ounces at a feeding and since Aaron has started to give her an expressed bottle at night, she has been sleeping a bit more (though I think it's time to up the ounces to 5 in that bottle). Elly now weighs 8 pounds, 10 ounces and we have progressed to #1 diapers - they are still a little big looking on her but nothing leaks out so we are good. We have also found her scooting all around in the bassinet and ends up sideways in the morning.

Sleeping sideways in my bassinet (of course I have to be in my swaddle sack)

Hopefully the wedge that we ordered will help not only with her acid re-flux and breathing but keeping her in one place. That girl can't keep still, thus why she still has to sleep in the swaddle sack. I did find she had moved so much that she had her arm out of the head opening this morning. She's non stop.....I can only imagine when she starts crawling/walking what it's going to be like.

One thing is for sure, Ellyson doesn't have a problem making dirty diapers. She definitely knows how to fill those suckers leaving lots of wonderful (insert sarcasm here) presents for mom and dad. She has definitely christened mom and dad both already. However this past weekend was her best one yet. I decided to change her diaper as I thought she had finished doing her thing. But I was wrong as she was not finished doing her thing and shot poopy clear across the room - all over the changing table, me, her, and the carpet (and almost made it to the wall). Needless to say, mom has learned her lesson to make sure that Elly has finished before changing her diaper.

We have been enjoying this nice weather with some shopping at the Summit (teaching her early) and getting lots of visitors, which we LOVE.

I started back work this week and Elly has been pretty good in cooperating with my schedule and meetings. For the most part I have been able to time meetings with her sleep schedule and my co-workers have been GREAT in working with my schedule. So blessed to work with such amazing people.

Not too many pictures this week but we will definitely have more to come in the next few weeks/months as Elly's baptism is May 12 and she will be traveling to Orlando in June for a week.

Happy One Month Birthday!

I can't believe that Elly is already a month old. We have been getting into the swing of things more as time is flying by.

Happy One Month Birthday to me!

Elly's Stats and Accompishments
Weight: 8 pounds
Height: 21 inches
She is in the 25% for weight and 75% for height.
(I think we are going to have a long and lean little girl)
Birth weight: 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 20 inches long

She is holding her head up well for a 1 month old and we are continuing to do tummy time with her. She is very inquisitive and LOVES to look around (though we are not sure what she is looking at or can see but at least she is awake and looking around.
We are still wearing newborn diapers and some of the newborn clothes are still to big. Though we have graduated from our newborn onesies to the 3 month ones.

She has gotten better with her sleep and we seem to be on a good 3 hour cycle (give or take 30 minutes). She has gone 4-5 hours between feedings on a few nights which has been nice. We are trying to figure out what the magic thing is to keep that up and think it might be giving her a bottle on the last feeding before bed. We are in the process of testing this out but we think that might be it. Fingers crossed as it's been nice to get more than 2 hours of sleep consecutively.

We have been enjoying the weather while it's been a bit cooler and going for little walks. The pollen has been so strong that we ended up having to stop walking outdoors until some of the pollen got washed away. We think that Elly is going to have a bit of sinus issues as she has been quite stuffy and sounds congested at times. We have started sleeping with her humidifier and that seems to help some.

Ready for my walk!

We also think that Elly has been suffering a bit from acid re-flux  (She can thank her dad for that as well). We are hoping that finding a wedge to put in her bed will help. Right now we have a t'shirt folded under the mattress to help elevate it a bit. It helps sometimes but is not as elevated as a wedge would be. Hopefully we can get this under control pretty soon.

I head back to work on Monday so Elly and I have been enjoying our time together. Just hanging out and of course taking lots of pictures

Newborn Pictures

We took Ellyson's newborn pictures on March 22 and got them back a few days ago. We think they turned out great for Elly being so young and not really wanting to cooperate - you can tell when she had enough by the crying pictures. Erin at Lens Envy did a great job and was wonderful to work with!!! Thanks Lauren for the recommendation.

Here are a few of our favorites.

Can't wait to take even more pictures of Elly and our family. Especially as she gets older and can sit up a bit more (and hopefully will be in a little better mood :-)).

2 week check up

Elly had her 2-week check up this week and all was great! She is now 7 pounds, 4.5 ounces and 21 inches long now. Steadily growing and in the 25% for weight and 75% for length in the 2 week age bracket. We are excited to start tummy time soon as her belly ribbon has almost fallen off. She will also get to have a real bath verses her sponge baths.....we will have to see how that goes as she's not the fondest of the baths at the moment.

Sweet smile

We have also been working on getting Elly on an eating and sleeping schedule and are steadily getting there. For the first week or so, she had her days and nights mixed up as well as was waking up about every hour to eat at night. We have progressed to a 2-3 hour eating schedule and hoping that gets even longer at night. Mom and Dad sure could use a few more hours of consecutive sleep ;-). Much thanks to Amanda for letting me borrow her book, Becoming Baby Wise, as I sacrificed sleep/naps one day to read how to get her on a schedule (and for those that know me, you know I typically don't read very fast). Needless to say, we started that night on trying to get her on the right track.

Elly is looking forward to the weather getting nice again so she can go for some more walks with mom (and hopefully dad will join us on the weekend). So far we have been able to walk twice and enjoy the sunshine and nice weather.

Easter weekend and visit from Aunt Angela & Uncle Eric

This past weekend we celebrated Easter and had more visitors. Aunt Angela and Uncle Eric came to meet Elly for the first time! Though we had a low key weekend it was nice for Elly to meet more family (Though we didn't get a picture with Uncle Eric....we will have take one in May when we are in New Orleans).

Elly also celebrated her first Easter. She got lots of goodies from Gram Lene, Aunt Chrissy, Aunt Angela, Bubbie, Aunt Suzanne, Hen and Cousin Lily. We enjoyed a great lunch at Becky and Bill's house (Aunt Ali's mom and step-dad) and got to take lots of pictures of Lily Kate and Ellyson in their matching dresses  (Pictures to come soon).
